The Spinone Italiano is a large, highly rugged, and incredibly versatile pointing dog from Italy. They are recognizable by their harsh, wiry coat, distinctive beard and eyebrows, and their deeply soulful, human-like expression. They are tireless workers in brutal, marshy terrain.
The Spinone is famously docile, exceptionally gentle, and much slower and more methodical in the field than other pointers. They are deeply devoted family dogs and excellent with children. They require vigorous daily exercise but are remarkably calm indoors. Their harsh, wiry coat requires regular brushing and hand-stripping, and their beard needs cleaning after meals.
