Training Your Australian Cattle Dog

The Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) is an intensely driven, brilliantly smart, and incredibly tough herding dog. They demand constant work.

Key Training Tips:

• Give Them a Job: Basic obedience is not enough. They must have rigorous daily tasks, such as advanced agility, herding, or intense fetch sessions, to prevent destructive behavior.
• Bite Inhibition: They were bred to move cattle by nipping their heels. You must strictly train them not to nip at running children or pets.
• Firm Leadership: They are headstrong and will dominate a weak owner. You must be an incredibly confident, consistent leader.

They form an intensely deep bond with one person (a "velcro dog") and respond beautifully to highly active, challenging training.
