The Wetterhoun (Frisian Water Dog) is a rugged, highly independent water retriever from the Netherlands. They are famously courageous, notoriously stubborn, and possess a unique, dense coat of tight curls that perfectly insulates them in freezing water.
The Wetterhoun is a deeply loyal family dog but is intensely independent and highly protective of their territory. They are excellent watchdogs but require firm, consistent leadership. They possess boundless energy and absolutely require vigorous daily exercise, particularly swimming. Their curly coat requires regular brushing to prevent tangles and remove field debris.
